Gutta-percha is a solid, flexible, electrically insulating, water-insoluble, translucent rubber obtained from the tree of the same name. It is the most frequently used filling material in endodontics for obturation of canals. Gutta-percha is produced in the form of long, thin, progressively tapering cones called gutta-percha tips. To minimize errors in endontics, it is necessary to have a good measuring instrument such as a gutta-percha caliper like the one shown.
